Ways of Seeing Architecture | Architecture Guided Tour

Co-organised by Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM), this guided tour allows teachers to appreciate the Museum’s architectural design firsthand and develop a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural connection between traditional and contemporary architecture. The tour also seeks to further enhance teachers’ appreciation skills of Chinese architecture, helping them incorporate this new knowledge into teaching and learning and cultivate students’ interest in traditional Chinese arts and culture and architectural design.

Architect Freddie Hai will lead participants through the Museum and share the design concept and creative process behind the making of the HKPM. Delving into the building’s structure and layout, exterior, and interior design, Mr. Hai will share stories of how the initial concept has matured into its final architectural form, introducing a new way to understand the Museum building design — a fresh and contemporary interpretation of traditional aesthetics.

After the tour, participants will gain access to museum’s thematic exhibitions and the new special exhibition titled The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: YUAN MING YUAN – Art and Culture of an Imperial Garden-Palace (Gallery 8) to experience the beauty of Chinese architecture and imperial garden art.
