Ways of Seeing Garden: Chinese Classical Gardens in Hong Kong (Nan Lian Garden and Chi Lin Nunnery)

This event is led by Dr Stan Lai, associate professor from the Department of Architecture at Hong Kong Chu Hai College. He will guide an immersive tour of Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden, offering participants the opportunity to experience these tranquil oases in an urban setting.

Nan Lian Garden is designed based on Tang Dynasty gardens and buildings. Alongside the nearby Chi Lin Nunnery, built with Tang-style wooden structures, it creates a Buddhist temple garden that blends Chinese and Japanese architectural styles. Among them, the garden teahouse, Song Cha Xie, is a Tang-style wooden waterside pavilion architecture that serves as a tea-drinking space. Participants will enjoy tea here, experiencing traditional tea culture.
